MOTIVATION MONDAY: WHY WORRY?

For as long as I can remember, my mum has always been a strong influence in my spiritual life. She made sure we, my siblings and I, had Christian books to read and never missed church services, including vigils, weekday services and children's programs. During one of such children's programs, we were taught a song. The first line of the song sings, 'Why worry? When you can pray?'. I loved the song, but as I grew up, it became one of those songs that you hardly remember, but when you do, you sing them until the song and everyone around you gets tired of you singing it.
Because of the pressures of the world, many of us have become worriers, worrying about everything from finances to life in general. I believe that there is a difference between thinking and worrying. To think means to evaluate, consider, anticipate, or analyse an idea. To worry means to torment oneself or suffer from disturbing thoughts. Thinking could lead to ideas and results, but worrying often leads to more worrying, negative energy and increase in blood pressure. There is a thin line between the two and without proper care, one can go from thinking to worrying.
The way the world works, what you sow, you reap, what you give, you receive. What you focus on is usually what you get more of, whether that thing is positive or negative. That's why those who invest their time into creative and productive thinking create ideas and produce results, while those who spend their time worrying about things, especially negative things, continue to see those things manifest in their lives and only end up creating more issues for themselves and others.
So as we begin this week, worry less, don't give attention to the things you don't want in your life. Rather, concentrate on positive and productive ideas and growth and watch it manifest in your life. Have a productive week!!
