TIME

"Don't you have a job to go to?". That was the first thing I heard. I think that was what woke me up. No!!! I'm up late again! The second time this week. I was off the bed in a flash. "Are you feeling okay? What's wrong with you?".  That was my mom. Conducting a very important inquiry on the reason(s) for my lateness to join the community of early risers. I rolled my eyes. "Mummy...please, I'm not ill, just been tired these past few days.", I replied. As I hurried to get ready, my brain was on autopilot, organising the day's activities.
As I got to the office building, Baba, the gateman, asked the reason for my lateness to the office. I only smiled a 'good morning' greeting to him and walked to the office. I had barely got into the office when the secretary, upon seeing me, asked why I was late to the office. That's it! "Why is everyone on my case today?!", I asked no one in particular. She laughed and asked if any other person had asked. I answered in the affirmative. "3!", I added. "In that case, I better not waste more of your time.", she said. "The letters from yesterday and the contracts for those Abuja people have been typed and are on the drive. The 'XYZ' case is today. Your 'Oga' ('boss' in Nigerian Pidgin English) will meet you at Court", she added. Great! I had barely forty minutes to proof-read documents before going to Court. My life!!
...
We live in a time where 'Time' controls everything we do. When we wake, eat, go to work, even when we sleep. We make appointments for meetings, lunch, and all. We hear things like bedtime, lunchtime, etc. We use phrases like 'God's time is the best', 'Time waits for nobody', 'A stitch in time saves nine', all to convey the importance of time.
Some people live life with little or no reliance to time. While some, the majority of us, work with time, that unseen master. 24 hours daily is hardly enough for us to handle our daily activities. Yet, time is very important to us. It helps maintain some form of order. Can you imagine what would happen if our flights were not timed? If you have to go to the Airport without knowing if there will be any flight to your destination? Or when, if any is available, it will be taking off?
The importance of time can not be overemphasised. We can not stop or take back time. We can only make the best of our time. Life becomes more meaningful when we realise the simple fact that we will never get the same moment twice. Make your plans, and make good use of the time you have. We only have this one life. We only live once.
Make it count.
